Find your way to this park!

Maheras Gentry Park

Summer weather is finally here, and this weekend at Maheras Gentry Park there were lots of people enjoying themselves! A colleague and past Planet Detroit journalist Jena Booker gave me a tour of this park located at 12550 Avondale Street.

She’d heard that there was a problem with trash at this location, and sadly I have to report that I noticed multiple overfilled garbage cans along with a tumbleweeds of snack bags blowing in the distance.

This is such a shame when you witness the beauty of this park. The walking trail winds around the various sections which feature horseshoes, child sized basketball court, exercise area and playground area.

Past the play area, adventurers will be greeted by the cool breeze coming off of the Detroit River. There is a lovely picturesque view here, and if you sit around long enough you may see sailboats cruising by from the launch point from Grayhaven Mooring Facility.

The Parks Report is part of a Planet Detroit series that focuses on a new Detroit park each week. Follow Zaire’s journey on Instagram @planetdetroitnews for more!
