Find your way to this park:

Spirit Plaza

Located next to the iconic Spirit of Detroit sculpture at 2 Woodward Ave lies Spirit Plaza, a gathering place established for Detroiters to come together for recreation, live performances, and chill spot to hang out downtown. The plaza was added in June of 2017 to accommodate pedestrians as they enjoyed live events and gathered for peaceful protest. Popular interest for this location marked it as a semi-permanent feature and signs around the plaza empower visitors to share their thoughts for what they want to see happen here in the future.

Currently, Spirit Plaza features a multitude of red and yellow umbrellaed picnic tables, a stage, and recreation equipment for all ages. The turf-like material used in the recreation area makes it safe for small children climbing on the geometric “jungle gym” located in the center of the plaza. Phone charging stations are also located here which is good if your phone dies from taking too many pictures. The Tall buildings that encompass this green space make you feel important like you’ve just discovered the jewel of the city.

Just a short walk from this green space sits Hart Plaza which houses the famous Joe Louis sculpture. A walk up Woodward Ave will take you deeper into downtown where shops and restaurants lie the street. This is a must see destination for all newcomers to Detroit or even a great summer date spot for locals!
