Dear Planet Detroiter,
For more than two years, we’ve made it our mission to produce local public-service environmental and public health journalism that you can trust—journalism that informs and strengthens our community and makes our city and state a better place to live.
The time for local independent reporting on climate change and public health is now. With world leaders meeting on COP26 this week, Planet Detroit is focused on what climate change means locally — for our city and state. We cultivate local journalists, especially journalists of color, to connect the dots between climate change and public health in Detroit.
That’s why we’re excited to share that we have an opportunity to make your donation go even further this year through NewsMatch, an industry-wide movement to sustain journalism through matching gifts on the local and national level.
Since 2016 NewsMatch has raised over $150 million to keep nonprofit journalism like ours going strong.
Here’s how it works.
Starting now—through December 31— NewsMatch and another local funder will match your new monthly donation OR double your one-time gift, up to $1,000 per donor. That means that, through NewsMatch, we can earn up to $15,000 in matching funds to fuel our operations in 2022.
We are a small and scrappy newsroom, and these funds are critical to our sustainability. Your support will help us continue to produce the kind of local public-service journalism you won’t find anywhere else.
If you value the critical work we do, will you give today?
With gratitude,
Nina Ignaczak + the Planet Detroit Team
P.S. Please help us spread the word! Do you have friends and colleagues who share your commitment to supporting journalism like ours? Forward this page to them (and thank you in advance!).
