Role Overview

The Payroll Administrator at Allied Media Projects plays a vital role in overseeing daily payroll, ensuring payroll data is accurately represented and integrated into the financial system. This role will ensure accurate processing and recording of the company’s payroll and all applicable taxes and SUI, provide timely and accurate financial information, and participate in daily changes and data entry. This role will also, ensure efficient coordination of accounting tasks, and offering interdepartmental support for finance-related projects and requests. The Payroll Administrator also provides crucial administrative support for day-to-day finance operations, ensuring smooth and timely completion of tasks.

Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Coordinate general payroll email inbox, including converting correspondence into assigned support tasks in the payroll inbox.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Reconcile monthly payroll journal entries between payroll provider, accounting system, and bank
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitate information by providing records and documentation to Accounting Manager and auditors.
  • Oversee and maintain accurate PTO tracking and reporting system
  • Responsible for processing and sharing internal payroll management reports 
  • Responsible for all payroll related questions, including but not limited to tax liabilities 
  • Contact various department supervisors for any missed times 
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Collect payroll information and materials needed for audit
  • Ensure accurate and timely year-end reporting (W-2, W-2c, quarterly tax, annual ACA).
  • Lead payroll system training and support for new team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Accounting  

  • Assist the Finance team with basic accounting and administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance within Sage Intacct and other financial systems.
  • Help maintain accurate financial records and organized electronic files.
  • Support payroll-related reconciliations and reporting preparation.
  • Assist with preparing spreadsheets and basic financial reports in Excel.
  • Provide backup support for day-to-day finance operations and special projects.

 Organizational Culture  

  • Adhere to AMP Working Agreements.
  • Participate in AMP staff meetings and in-person retreats.
  • Actively participating in virtual meetings with the team.

Qualifications

Need to have…

  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • 3+ years of related experience is required
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Advanced excel skills preferred
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct preferred;
  • UKG Ready knowledge is strongly preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Work Environment

This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

This is a Full-Time position, based in Detroit, MI. This role will operate in a Hybrid working capacity, requiring 1-2 in-office work days per week, at our office located at 4731 Grand River Avenue, Suite 400, Detroit, MI, 48208. The working hours for this position are Monday – Thursday, 10 am – 6 pm EST. 

The ideal start date for this role is June 29, 2026.
