Republishing guidelines for Planet Detroit
Planet Detroit aims to produce quality climate, equity, health and environment journalism in the public interest that centers grassroots voices, holds power accountable, spotlights solutions + serves the community. That means we love when other outlets share our work.
Stories that are eligible for republishing contain a republishing widget. If you’re interested in republishing one of our stories online or in print, we just have a few requirements:
1. Add a canonical link.
To help preserve search integrity, please include this canonical tag in the HTML <head> section of your republished page:
Replace the URL with the original link to the story on Planet Detroit. If you're using the Yoast plugin in WordPress, here are some instructions.
3. Credit us.
Use this format for the byline:
Author Name, Planet Detroit
At the top of the story (if on the web), please also include this note with a link to the original article:
“Planet Detroit originally published this story [link to original story]. Sign up for Planet Detroit's weekly newsletter here.”
4. Follow our image requirements.
Only photos sourced from Creative Commons or public domain sources may be republished. Images produced by our team or freelancers cannot be reused without written permission from the photographer or illustrator.
5. Don’t change the content significantly.
You may update headlines or subheadings. Minor edits for clarity such as changing “yesterday” to “today” or “Southwest Detroit” to “here” are acceptable.
If you wish to localize or adapt the article in a more substantial way, please reach out to us for approval before publishing.
6. Don’t sell our stories.
You may not sell ads specifically designed to appear in our stories. If your site has general ads that auto-populate, that’s fine.
7. Let us know.
Please email us if you republish our content. As a nonprofit newsroom, we track reach and impact, and we’d love to know how you used the story. If we request a correction or removal, we ask that you comply promptly.
