Positions: Program Manager (full-time) and Program Associate (part-time)
Direct Supervisor: Director of Programs
Job Description
Serve as Lead Facilitator for youth cohorts (ages 10-18) and execute an engaging, high-energy in-school program in conjunction with your co- facilitator(s). Maintain up to 25 students total in your assigned cohort(s). Establish a culture of mutual respect, an engaging and interactive learning environment, and safe spaces for students to thrive.
Youth and Family Engagement
➢ Build and Maintain Positive, Long-Term Relationships – with students, families, educators, and staff at program sites, and support connections between DFA facilitators and the students and sites they serve.
➢ Community Engagement – attend or ensure DFA representation at meetings for partnership organizations, including school partners, and community partners.
➢ Parent Engagement – work with the program team to strengthen parent engagement; work with the Director of Programs to identify and establish a DFA Parent Council.
➢ Support Recruitment and Retention – follow up with students and families as opportunities or issues arise.
➢ Record Keeping – ensure youth paperwork is completed and all records (ex: attendance) are tracked and regularly updated in the DFA system.
➢ Timely and Respectful Communication – hold conversations as needed with our site contacts, youth and families; maintain prompt communication with all staff, team members, students, and families and school and community partners. Report immediately to the Program Director any issues of concern around youth participation, behavioral matters, or safety protocols.
Program Management
➢ Maintenance – Track, clean, maintain, and care for DFA kitchen equipment issued to your cohort. Maintain regular check-ins with co-facilitator(s).
➢ Improve and Refine all Programming – work in collaboration with DFA Program and Administrative staff to ensure program delivery and curriculum execution.
➢ Workshops and Special Events – work with the program team to design and execute workshops and special events, from broad vision to day-of details.
➢ Health and Nutrition Education – work with the program team to incorporate health and nutrition education into all curriculums.
➢ Community Engagement – build and maintain relationships with institutional and community partners; work towards establishing a shared vision for health-driven workshops and special events, planning, and executing from broad vision to day-of details.
➢ Classroom Facilitator Training – work with the program team to establish effective trainings grounded in culinary education, youth development, classroom management, program curriculum, and the structure and requirements for the year.
➢ Data Management – track relevant paperwork, records, lesson plans, recipes, and photos and store them in the correct recordkeeping folders after each program; manage cohort data and ensure all Classroom Facilitators are compliant with attendance, survey information, and other record keeping.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts, Pastry and Baking, Nutrition, Education, or Public Health preferred and ServSafe certification required
• 3-7 years youth program supervisory experience; direct contact with youth
• Secondary education teaching certification and experience a plus
• Experience working in a professional kitchen is desired
• Strong leadership, communication, patience and the ability to mentor students
• Must have reliable personal transportation (programming takes place at various school site locations)
• Must demonstrate teaching ability – prepare to show competence through demonstration
